Mennonite Heritage Village

A Collected History: Mennonite Heritage Village tells the story of the Russian Mennonites through the lens of material culture. In rich photographic detail, the book provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the diverse collections, activities, and architectural heritage that make the Mennonite Heritage Village unique. These artifacts, buildings, and living history serve as focal points for some of the major events that have shaped the history of this branch of Anabaptists over the last five centuries.
Co-authors Andrea Dyck and Dr. Roland Sawatzky have collaborated on this project, published on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Mennonite Heritage Village. Andrea Dyck is the Curator at the Mennonite Heritage Village. She has studied the relationship between Kanadier Mennonites in northern Mexico and the surrounding Mexican host society, as evidenced in letters written by these Canadian-descendant Mennonites and published in Die Steinbach Post from 1916-1967. Dr. Roland Sawatzky is the Curator of History at The Manitoba Museum in Winnipeg and the former Curator at the Mennonite Heritage Village. He has a PhD in Archaeology and has been researching the material culture of Mennonites for fourteen years, producing numerous engaging exhibits for the public. He has helped direct four seasons of archaeological excavations in the abandoned Mennonite village of Blumenhof.
