About Those Reimers chronicles the wealthy Steinbach merchant family, H.W. Reimers, from the peak of their prosperity in 1925 to the demise of their “empire” in the 1960s. Along with its detailed historicity, the book is also autobiographical. Elizabeth Reimer, granddaughter of H.W. Reimer, grew up amidst privilege that most girls of the Mennonite settlements of the early 1900s could only dream of. The story follows Elizabeth from her childhood in Steinbach to her eventual marriage to Bruno Derksen, who, with his brother Eugene, published the Carillon News in Steinbach for many years.
